The Bydgoszcz Provocation and its results in telexes sent to the National Coordination Committee of the Solidarity Trade Union on March 21, 1981, AKKS 347/3/725

Below we continue to present scans of telex messages sent to the National Coordination Committee of the Solidarity Trade Union, referring to the Bydgoszcz Provocation which took place on March 19, 1981. Last month we mentioned that there is more similar telex messages in our archives: Bydgoszcz Provocation and reactions of companies.

Today we would like to show you another archival unit, titled Bydgoszcz Provocation and its results (AKKS 347/3/725). The authors of incoming telexes believe that the consequences of this event evoked a dangerous social and economic crisis and confrontation between the authorities and people. They claim that the communist party and state authorities bore sole responsibility for the social and political crisis situation. Trade union organizations assured the National Coordination Committee of the Solidarity Trade Union of their readiness to participate in a general strike. Some offered proposals what to do next. One of the ideas was to establish an independent team to investigate the Bydgoszcz events. Another was the demand to allow Lech Wałęsa appear in mass media and issue an official communication of the National Coordination Committee of the Solidarity Trade Union on this event.
