Posters and leaflets related to social agreements, workers’ self-management and strike actions by the Solidarity Trade Union
In the Archives of the National Commission of the Solidarity Trade Union you can find numerous posters and leaflets of the Solidarity Trade Union. This time we would like to display those held in the Collection of the Independent and Self-Governing Trade Union “Solidarity” and opposition groups by the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Warsaw from 1980-1981 (AKKS 347/75/27). These documents present postulates related to social agreements, workers’ self-management and strike actions which happen between two major events of this era – August and September 1980 Agreements and the imposition of martial law in December 1981.
Below there is a selection of posters and leaflets reminding of obligations resulting from agreements signed by the Solidarity Trade Union and the Government Committee. Several posters appeal to end repression against active Solidarity members. There are appeals to stop buying newspapers issued by the communists, as well as requests to purchase paper needed for the Solidarity regional weekly. Displayed leaflets demand to register the Solidarity statutes without imposed changes, and to reform the justice administration. Some leaflets announce strikes in the LOT Polish Airlines planned for the 24th of July 1981, and a general warning strike planned for the 28th of October 1981.
