Calendars collection in the Archives of the National Commission of the Solidarity Trade Union (No. 190)
In the first month of 2022 we would like to share with you scans of selected calendars (the wole collection has 300 units) held in the Historical Archives of the National Commission of the Solidarity Trade Union. The collection contains calendars published between the 1980s and the present. Collected prints have various forms – there are wall, pocket, book or desk calendars, as well as calendars in the form of stickers.
The calendars refer to significant events of the Polish history, using connotations, symbols, images of people and typical buildings. Several motifs are repeated, for example Our Lady of Częstochowa, or national emblems, like coat of arms of Poland. The calendars recall important figures in the history of Poland, dignitaries of church (Pope John Paul II, Priest Jerzy Popiełuszko), and political personages (Józef Piłsudski, Roman Dmowski, Ignacy Paderewski, Lech Wałęsa). The Solidarity logo is a very frequent motif. Many key words or numbers are written in a Solidaryca typeface, eg. Niepodległość (Independence), Solidarność Narodu (Solidarity of the Nation).
