Strike at the Technical University of Gdansk
The Archives of the National Commission of NSZZ „Solidarność” hold the documentation of the 1981 strike of students and staff at the Technical University of Gdansk.
Below you can find a selection of scans related to this strike. It begins with the statutes of the Independent and Self-Governing Trade Union “Solidarity” (Polish abbr. NSZZ “Solidarność”) typed at the Technical University of Gdansk on September the 24th, 1980, signed by Andrzej Kopeć, Vice President of the Founding Committee of NSZZ “Solidarność” at this university. The statutes are followed by the Regulations of the Sit-In Strike at the Technical University of Gdansk, approved by NSZZ “Solidarność” Staff Committee and Students’ Parliament of the university. The Regulations deprive the Technical University of Gdansk rectors, deans, department managers and administrative staff of authority over the university and transfer this authority to the Strike Committee of NSZZ “Solidarność” and Students’ Parliament of the university.
The statutes and strike regulations are followed by the strike guidelines for the unversity staff and students participating in the strike.
Also attached are the temporary terms and conditions for receiving statutory subsidies financed by NSZZ “Solidarność”, dated January the 16th, 1981.
Our selection of documents ends with Regulations of the 24-25th November 1981 Strike at the Technical University of Gdansk, giving the authority over the university to the chairmen of the Strike Committee of NSZZ “Solidarność” and Independent Students’ Association of the university.
