Birthday wishes for Pope John Paul II
Karol Wojtyla was born 100 years ago. Therefore now is a good time for presenting telex messages dated 1981, to be found in the Archives of the National Commission of NSZZ „Solidarność” in Gdansk, in the collection of the National Coordinating Commission & the National Commission of the Solidarity Trade Union, 1980-1981. The text messages shown below were sent by telex, that is a message-transfer service using a teleprinter network connected by a system of switched exchanges, and they contain wishes sent to Pope John Paul II on his 61st birthday. The majority of them are wishes for a speedy recovery after the assassination attempt on May 13, 1981. In the Archives of the National Commission of NSZZ „Solidarność” you can find telex messages sent by the National Coordinating Commission of the Solidarity Trade Union, Inter-Enterprise Founding Committee of the Solidarity Trade Union in Gdańsk, Presidium of the Inter-Enterprise Founding Committee of the Solidarity Trade Union in Lesser Poland, Presidium of the Inter-Enterprise Founding Committee of the Solidarity Trade Union in Lodz region, and the Solidarity Trade Union at the Communication Equipment Factory of PZL Mielec.
